Sore hamstring makes Revis unsure if he'll play Sunday

Darrelle Revis was the last player to emerge from the trainer's room, eventually taking the slow stroll across the Jets' spacious locker room just after 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The Pro Bowl cornerback needed serious treatment on his left hamstring, the injury that kept him out of two games before he returned Monday night in the 29-20 win over the Vikings at New Meadowlands Stadium. Revis' leg had swelled up and he said he felt soreness starting in the first quarter, leading him to question whether he'll be available Sunday against the Broncos in Denver.
"I don't know," Revis said after the game. "As of right now, we'll take it day by day, like we've been doing. We'll see how it goes. I want to be out there so bad with my teammates and win games, but as of right now, I just need patience. I need to learn patience and get back to 100 percent."
But even with that, Rex Ryan wasn't ready to say Revis would be sidelined against the Broncos, preferring the wait-and-see approach. Ryan left the door open, thinking maybe Revis will be able to walk right through it - on two good legs.
"Hopefully, he'll be able to get through this," Ryan said Tuesday, "and we'll have him back up this week against Denver."
With a bye the following week, the Jets could give Revis an extra week to heal if he sits out this week. He'd have essentially three weeks to get more treatment, which presumably would have him ready to return when the Jets host the pass-happy Packers on Halloween.
Ryan, though, didn't sound too keen on that idea.
"If he's healthy, we want to play Darrelle," Ryan said. "If he's healthy, it's not vacation time. It's time to beat somebody. This is an AFC opponent and we need to win the game so we can get into the postseason. So that would be my thought. Is he going to be better three weeks from now if we don't play him? I think that still has to be determined. I don't think we are there yet."
Second-guessers have been knocking the Jets for playing Revis on a rain-soaked field. Forcing the All-Pro to sit because of the weather and possible re-injury never crossed Ryan's mind, though, because he never knew Revis was experiencing soreness.
"I played a bunch of plays out there," Revis said. "Some plays, it would hurt and some plays it wouldn't. It started in the first quarter, when I first got out there. The trainers were checking up on me, making sure everything was OK. I was OK. It was just fighting through it. If I knew I was going to be a hindrance to the team, I would have called it quits and went in."
He didn't call it quits Monday, but he indicated he might be doing that this week if he's not sufficiently healed to his liking.
"What we've always said - and it's true - we will always do what's in the best interest of the football team and the player," Ryan said. "If any player would come up and say that they don't feel they can play, they're not ready to play, then they would not play."
