Tim Tebow's arrival apparently is going to signal Drew Stanton's departure.

Stanton, signed last week to back up Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez, prefers to be traded or released outright, according to a source. The source also said Stanton doesn't want to be the No. 3 behind Tebow.

Stanton, who spent four seasons with the Lions, signed a one-year, $1.25-million contract with the Jets last Friday.

The Jets also have second-year player Greg McElroy, so they could cut ties with Stanton and still have three quarterbacks on the roster.

General manager Mike Tannenbaum, in one of many radio interviews he did Thursday, said the Jets are working on their quarterback situation behind Sanchez and Tebow.

"When we signed Drew last week, we thought he'd be our two," Tannenbaum said on WFAN. "We are going to look at that situation now. We've talked to him and his agent. We may wind up keeping four [quarterbacks]. We are not sure yet and we don't have a resolution on that quite yet."
