Now that the NFL draft is over, John Idzik has begun making changes to his college scouting department.

A source confirmed to Newsday Wednesday evening that the contracts of assistant scouting director Michael Davis and area scout Joe Bommarito won't be renewed at the end of the month.

The news was first reported by the New York Post.

Davis, who is based in Richmond, was responsible for the Southeast region, including SEC and ACC schools -- and second-round pick Geno Smith. Of his 16 years with the Jets the past five were spent as the assistant scouting director. Bommarito, who was responsible for scouting on the West Coast, has been with the organization for 12 years.

Davis -- who accompanied offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg and quarterbacks coach David Lee to Morgantown last month for Smith's pro day -- told reporters Saturday that he had no problems staking his reputation on the team's selection of Smith.

“That’s my job. That’s what I do,” Davis said. “…I have no problem with that. I think he’s worth it. I think our organization (feels that way). It wasn’t just me. We did it as an organization. We all felt good about it, we talked it through, and we’re glad to have him.”

According to two sources, more changes are expected at One Jets Drive.
