Looking to upgrade at wide receiver, the Jets plan to host free agent Chaz Schilens, according to a source.
Schilens, 26, is a big target with speed -- a combination none of the Jets' receivers has. The 6-4, 225-pounder caught 23 passes for 271 yards and two touchdowns last season with the Raiders. He had four catches for 31 yards in their September win over the Jets.
In four seasons in Oakland, Schilens had seven touchdowns and 902 yards on 72 receptions. He is familiar with new Jets wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal, who was with the Raiders from 2007 through this past season. Lal was Oakland's wideouts coach the last three years before general manager Reggie McKenzie came in and got rid of Hue Jackson's staff.
Jets kicker Nick Folk re-signed Wednesday, and terms were not disclosed. Folk made 19 of 25 field-goal attempts last season and averaged 63.7 yards on 81 kickoffs, with 17 touchbacks.
Folk's signing is only the second modest move by the Jets since free agency began Tuesday, when they welcomed back linebacker Bryan Thomas.
But besides Schilens, they have their eyes on a few players who are on the market. According to a source, the Jets are hopeful of scheduling a sitdown with former Lions quarterback Drew Stanton. There appears to be mutual interest, and the Jets would like to have him as Mark Sanchez's backup.
Also, the Jets reportedly are interested in a potential reunion with receiver Jerricho Cotchery. He told ESPNNewYork.com that he wouldn't be opposed to returning after spending one season in Pittsburgh. The Jets released him in August.
"Yeah, I'm open to it," Cotchery said. "I'm open to all possibilities. I don't close doors. I'm not that type of dude."
Notes & quotes: The Jets waived WR Michael Campbell and released S Gerald Alexander.
