Source: White waived; will undergo sports hernia surgery

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Jordan White, the Jets' seventh-round pick in 2012, has been waived by the team and is scheduled to undergo sports hernia surgery on Tuesday, according to a source.
The wide receiver, who reached an injury settlement with the team, could return to the Jets in 3-4 weeks if he's healthy.
White -- whose playing career has been plagued by injury, dating back to his college days at Western Michigan – has been sidelined for much of training camp due to this latest setback.
According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons web site, a sports hernia is a strain or tear of any soft tissue (muscle, tendon, ligament) in the lower abdomen or groin area and most often occurs during sudden changes of direction or intense twisting movements.
Irked last Monday by the addition of White and fellow wideouts Joe Collins and Marcus Davis to the rehab group, Jets coach Rex Ryan said: “[You think] really? That kid again? It gets to the point where you're tired of seeing it. We want football players, guys that play football. Availability is an important thing in this league.”
The coach’s comment seemed directed largely at White, who’s flashed promise in spurts, but hasn’t consistently been able to showcase it on the field. White, who also missed time earlier this offseason in minicamp, underwent left foot (fifth metatarsal) surgery last season after a “freak” practice injury on May 21, 2012.
The receiver, taken 244th overall, also had two “freak accidents” in college, tearing his ACL in 2006 and 2008 while blocking during practice.
White has played in just two games for the Jets (no starts) and has one catch for 13 yards.
