Tannenbaum opts for 'right evaluation'

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Mike Tannenbaum's mind was much more at ease Tuesday, more so than it was after the Jets' preseason opening loss to the Texans.
"I was actually much more encouraged after the Bengal game," the general manager said, referring to Sunday's 27-7 win over Cincinnati. "I thought some of our younger guys played well. And in fairness to them, just trying to evaluate all these young guys without an offseason program, we wanted to make it the right evaluation, not the quick evaluation."
Tannenbaum, who's never shy about tinkering with his roster, met with his brass on Monday, trying to get a gauge of exactly where things with the roster stand in training camp. But he's not ready to start moving pieces around just yet, opting to get a good peek at the younger players before figuring out his next move.
"Offensive line, DBs, we are looking at the whole roster," Tannenbaum said. "But as a whole, I thought the young guys played up front on both sides of the ball, in particular on Sunday night -- D-line, some of the younger offensive linemen. But we'll keep evaluating from practice to practice, evaluate them after the Giants game, and go from there."
