Fred Davis is leaving his options open. But the Jets are no longer a part of the equation.

After visiting with members of the Bills front office, the free-agent tight end told Buffalo writers that he still plans to meet Friday with the Jets. But, according to ProFootballTalk.com, Davis has now cancelled his scheduled trip to New Jersey.

That leaves just the Bills and the Redskins -- his former team -- as the two potential landing spots.

“This is a business,” Davis said Thursday afternoon from the Bills’ headquarters in Orchard Park, N.Y. “You have to see all your options before you make a decision. I won’t make any fast decisions. I’ll wait and see I’ll make sure I’m all the way confident in what I want to do and go from there.”

Davis also said he’s confident he’ll be healed from Achilles tendon surgery in time for the season.

“I’m way ahead of schedule," said the former Redskins tight end, who played in just seven games in 2012 because of his torn Achilles.

“I don’t know what it is for most guys, but I went to the best doctor in the country – (Dr. Robert) Anderson (in Charlotte, N.C.). …I’m on month 4 1/2 right now, and I’m already running on the treadmill, doing drills. So I think I’ll be way ahead of schedule.”

Davis caught 59 passes for 796 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games in 2011, but was suspended for the final four contests because of repeated failed drug tests.

The tight end – who played at USC with Mark Sanchez – played for Washington the past five seasons. The team has been trying to re-sign him, according to The Washington Post, but the Redskins have salary cap issues of their own.

The Jets still are in the market for a replacement for Dustin Keller, who recently signed a one-year deal to play for the Dolphins. Backup Jeff Cumberland and Konrad Reuland are the only tight ends currently on the Jets’ roster.
