FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Thomas Jones insists he won't be any more motivated when he steps onto the MetLife Stadium field Sunday to face his former team for the first time.

"Some people look at it as an opportunity to be bitter or to say when we play them again, I'm going to try to have a good game," the Chiefs running back said Wednesday. "I don't look at it like that. I look at every opportunity I've had in my life as a blessing."

Jones, 33, spent three seasons with the Jets, rushing for 3,833 yards and 28 touchdowns from 2007-09. Despite coming off a career season, the Jets released him in March 2010 because they didn't want to pay him a $3- million roster bonus on top of the $2.8-million base salary he was due. Jones, who ran for 1,402 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2009, said he wasn't shocked by the move.

But he admitted Wednesday he boycotted the offseason workouts in 2009 because he wasn't happy with his deal.

"The business is a huge part of the NFL as well as football,'' Jones said, "and I wasn't surprised because I knew what was possibly going to happen before the season started.''

Come Sunday, Jones wants to secure something else: moving up the NFL's career rushing list. He's 24th with 10,438 yards and has his eye on two individuals.

"I need 12 yards to pass Tiki Barber [10,449] and Eddie George [10,441] on the all-time list, and that would be special for me," Jones said, "especially playing with Tiki in college, and watching him in the pros, and kind of growing up admiring him, coming from Virginia.

"So coming back to New York and hopefully being able to do that as well, I mean that's something special."

G Brandon Moore (hip), DE Mike DeVito (knee) and DB Ellis Lankster (back) didn't practice. The Jets brought in former Texans and Seahawks G Chester Pitts for a workout Tuesday, but Rex Ryan thinks Moore should play. He called DeVito "very, very doubtful."
