FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - Darrelle Revis is making progress after his 36-day holdout, practicing for the second time this week yesterday. But he still has a ways to go.

"He's 75 percent," defensive backs coach Dennis Thurman said. "We tweaked a few things as far as defensive scheme, strategy that he's had to work on. And then physically, we are trying to run him but not overrun him, and pretty much at this point allowing him to tell us how he feels physically and how his legs feel.

"And if he says, 'I'm feeling fatigued,' which I'm sure he will . . . then we'll back him off and see how long he can go on Monday night."

Thurman didn't know what to expect from Revis once he arrived Monday, simply because the two hadn't communicated.

"He came in and we sat down and talked for about 45 minutes," Thurman said. "He said, 'Hey, you could've texted me, you could've called me and said, "What's up?'' or whatever.'

"I said, 'Do you remember our conversation we had before you left?' He goes, 'Yeah.' I said, 'What did I tell you?' He said, 'You said you weren't going to contact me, this was my thing, whatever I decided to do.'

"So I stayed out of it and he said, 'OK, cool. Cool.' Yet I think at the same time, it goes to show you the type of person he is. He wanted to be around his teammates; he wanted that personal contact. But some of us just opted not to get involved."

Dungy still salty on Rex

If Tony Dungy were a general manager, he wouldn't hire Rex Ryan. That's essentially what the former Colts and Buccaneers coach reiterated during an interview on "The Dan Patrick Show" yesterday. Said Dungy, "There's times we're on the practice field . . . we have open practices . . . I don't want to hear that language.''

Extra points

S Brodney Pool (ankle) didn't practice again, but Ryan hopes he can do so at least in a limited capacity today.
