Todd Bowles says Jets can be very dangerous

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — The Jets are still a work in progress, but they have the potential to be a legitimate threat, according to their coach.

“If it all comes together, we can be very dangerous,” Todd Bowles said Tuesday. “But there’s a time constraint on it with three weeks left in the season. But they are coming together pretty good and they are growing very good and they’re starting to realize that.”

The Jets (8-5) currently hold the No. 6 and final playoff spot in the AFC, but they’ll have to win out to have the best shot at reaching the postseason. Kansas City and Pittsburgh are both 8-5 and the Jets could be on the outside looking because of tiebreakers.

Christmas has come early for Ryan Fitzpatrick, joked Brandon Marshall. The receiver playfully showed off his holiday gift for his quarterback — Keyshawn Johnson’s book titled: “Just Give Me The Damn Ball!” “I probably could have 100 catches right now . . . probably could have had 75 catches if he didn’t hurt his thumb,” Marshall joked. He later admitted, however, that he bought five copies of the book to give to the Jets receiving corps. Marshall said he planned to post a photo on Instagram as a way to “make fun of” the “diva” and “prima donna” labels placed on receivers. “But,” he said, “I never got to do it because we had a couple bad games.”

Cheap shot

Marshall called out ex-Giants defensive end Damontre Moore for a late hit during the Jets’ 23-20 overtime victory two weeks ago. “My chest, my ribs are still hurting,” the receiver said Tuesday morning on WFAN. “I broke a long run up the left side of the field, and I was already down, and he dove right into my back. I felt like it was a cheap shot. I don’t like that guy, man.”

Tuesday “was just a mental practice,” but Bowles said WR Jeremy Kerley (calf contusion) looked fine “so far” and that he’s optimistic about CB Marcus Williams (sprained left knee) playing.
