What happened to LaDainian Tomlinson?

The running back left at the end of the third quarter with flu-like symptoms. Tomlinson, who got the ceremonial starting nod against his old team, had five carries for 14 yards and three receptions for 37 yards. "I really couldn't stand up anymore," he said. "Even on the sideline, I was down on one knee because I just didn't have the energy to stand up."

Was there ever a time when he didn't think he was going to be able to give it a go?

"I knew I was going to play, so I didn't let it early on affect me. I was going off adrenaline and obviously off the medicine for a while there . . . But I was able to push through and make some plays for this team."

Was Antonio Cromartie as hyped up as he said he would be against his old team?

"It was something that I was definitely looking forward to this season, and it was just going out there and just playing football," he said. "We felt like we did a great job on the back end, and we just wanted to play football like we know how. It was cool. Just seeing some of my former teammates, talking to them and catching up a little bit. When the game started, there were no friends on the field."

Has Nick Mangold ever been flagged for as many penalties as he was yesterday?

The All-Pro center was called for three penalties, a number he said is the most infractions he's committed in a game. A first-quarter holding call nullified Santonio Holmes' 23-yard TD reception. "That's unacceptable," he said. "You are bound to have a penalty or two on aggressiveness, trying to play and everything. But in the end you can't have those . . . It doesn't matter if I agree or not. I can't put the ref in the position to make a decision. So it's not good on my part and it's just bad."

How did Rex Ryan and Norv Turner react to seeing each other in person after their war of words this past week?

Ryan said he joked before the game with Turner about boxing him. "I told him I thought I could get him inside. I was gonna work the body. Obviously my chin's not great. You have to worry about that one punch of his. I got so much respect for Norv. I talked about the respect I have for that organization and that's never changed." Turner, on the other hand, was tight-lipped about their postgame pleasantries. "I just said congratulations to him," he said.

Is David Harris all right after returning in the second half after a first-half ankle injury?

"They took me in the back and got an X-ray," said the linebacker, adding it was just a sprain. "They saw nothing. I tried to start the half, but I couldn't. I let it settle down a little bit after a couple series and came back in and was able to play.''

Now that he has three sacks in four games, Aaron Maybin has to feel good about himself after failing to record a sack in his first season with the Bills, right?

"That's the job they brought me in here to do," he said, "and I'm just trying to do my best to make sure I hold up my end of the bargain."

Did he have any thoughts on facing the Bills in two weeks?

"I got it circled on my calendar. That's all I'm saying."

The teams totaled 21 penalties for 155 yards; San Diego had 13 penalties. Were the Chargers critical of the officials?

"Some of those calls were pretty bad," safety Eric Weddle said. "It's frustrating when as a defense, you play your heart out, you play the right defense, and you get called in key situations, too."

Were the Jets surprised that Philip Rivers threw the ball away on fourth-and-3 from the San Diego 49 on the Chargers' final series?

"To tell you the truth, I didn't know it was fourth down," Harris said. "I thought they got the first down on that over route. A lot of us didn't know it was fourth down."
