Tua Tagovailoa will miss Sunday’s game against the Jets, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said on Monday.

The Dolphins quarterback suffered a concussion against the Bengals on Thursday and was taken off the field on a stretcher, a development that stirred controversy because Tagovailoa had seemed to suffer a head injury the previous Sunday in a victory over the Bills.

In the earlier game, Tagovailoa staggered off the field, was checked for a concussion and returned. The Dolphins said he had injured his back.

McDaniel told reporters in South Florida that he does not have a timeline for Tagovailoa’s return. Veteran Teddy Bridgewater is slated to start in his place at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, with Skylar Thompson as his backup.

“Right now he’s in the building,” McDaniel said of Tagovailoa. “He’s had a couple good days, but he’s just trying to go through with the proper procedure and protocol so that he’s feeling 100%. I know he’s going to be diligent with it.”
