[Updated] Jets ask permission to interview Gamble for GM job

A league source confirmed the Jets asked permission to interview Gamble.
Both the Jets and the Jacksonville Jaguars have asked permission to interview 49ers director of player personnel Tom Gamble for their GM openings, according to ESPN's NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
Jets owner Woody Johnson fired Mike Tannenbaum Monday morning. In a statement, Johnson promised his new general manager "will be critical to getting this team back on the right track."
