With last pick, Jets take WF FB Bohanon

The Jets' 2013 draft class is finally complete.

The team selected Wake Forest fullback Tommy Bohanan in the seventh (215th overall).

The 6-0 1/2, 247-pound Bohanon said on a conference call that he played in a "pro-style multiple offense" during his first three years at Wake Forest, but this past season Wake Forest ran more of a college-type spread offense. Though he was mostly used as an H-back this past season, he has some experience at tight end. He also played special teams all four years of college.

"I think that I will be able to (fit) in well," he said. "I think that is one of my strong suits-is my versatility and being able to block, run, as well as catch the ball out of the backfield.

"I think the West Coast Offense suits me well and I think that I will be able to come in and do well in that type of offense." 

The Jets agree completely. "I think he’s a real good fit," said senior personnel executive Terry Bradway. "Number one, he’s a tough kid, he’s got size, he runs well. I’m very impressed with the way he catches the ball. I think that’s a big part of this offense. He’s shown that (ability) in live games, he’s shown it in the Senior Bowl. He’s a good (receiver) out of the backfield. (He has) a lot of qualities of a traditional fullback. We were lucky to be able to pick him up in the seventh round."

Bohanan -- a former Wake Forest teammate of John Idzik's son, Brad -- rushed for 160 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries (3.20 avg.) and caught 51 passes for 405 yards and seven touchdowns in his career.

Bohanan, who posted a Combine-best 36 reps of 225 pounds in Indianapolis, is just the second Wake Forest player to be drafted by the Jets.

The first? Second-year safety Josh Bush. 

"It was always my dream and it was always a possibility to me," Bohanon said of the possibility of making it to the NFL out of North Fort Myers High School. "I mean I’ve seen plenty of people, I mean Deion Sanders went to my high school, so I thought throughout my life with people in the NFL from Fort Myers. I knew it was a possibility I just knew I had to work hard to be able to get to it."

Asked jokingly if he's better than Sanders, Bohanan laughed and said: "Not at all."
