Yeremiah Bell is a Jet

Veteran SS Yeremiah Bell has agreed to a one-year contract with the Jets, according to a source.

The former Miami Dolphin has agreed to a $1.4 million deal -- $1.3M of which is fully-guaranteed. He will receive a $1.1M base base salary (fully-guaranteed), plus a $200,000 signing bonus and a $100,00 workout bonus. 

The Jets have yet to confirm the signing, but are expected to do so in the coming hours.

On Wednesday, Bell's agent Drew Rosenhaus told Miami radio WQAM that his client could sign with one of four teams in the next 24 hours. And the Jets, of course were one of them. Bell  – who led Miami in tackles for four straight years and was the longest tenured Dolphin before his release this offseason – also has visited the Eagles, and in the past week has met with the Chiefs and Titans.

It seemed the Jets would be an unlikely landing spot for the 34-year-old Bell, who was released by the Dolphins so they could avoid paying his $6.2 million salary. Plus, the Jets drafted Josh Bush and Antonio Allen after signing both LaRon Landry and DeAngelo Smith in the offseason.

Now the Jets safety total is up to seven -- casting doubt on the potential return of fan favorite Jim Leonhard. Shortly before the Bell news broke, Leonhard's representation said the safety -- who suffered leg injuries in each of the past two seasons -- has had conversation with "several teams," including the Jets. But the Bell signing, on top of all the other secondary moves this offseason, may mean the end of Leonhard in green and white.
