The Giants wasted little time trying to fill the most glaring hole on their roster.

Tight end Martellus Bennett, who spent four seasons with the Cowboys, flew to New Jersey Tuesday night and will meet with the Giants Wednesday. ESPNDallas.com first reported the meeting and also noted that Bennett came to the area on a one-way ticket. That could mean he's here to stay, or it could mean that there are other teams wooing him and he hasn't decided where a potential second stop will be.

Bennett was a backup behind Jason Witten with the Cowboys. The 6-6, 270-pounder may be best known for displaying a poor attitude as a 20-year-old rookie when the Cowboys starred in HBO's "Hard Knocks."

He has 85 catches for 846 yards in his career and scored his four touchdowns as a rookie. Last season he had 17 catches for 144 yards. He was used more as a run blocker, but has expressed an interest in becoming more of a passing threat.

The Giants need a tight end because they lost two of them in the Super Bowl. Jake Ballard and Travis Beckum both tore their ACLs in the win over the Patriots and are not expected to be back until at least the middle of the 2012 season. Bear Pascoe is their only remaining tight end with regular-season experience.
