Pitt beats No. 3 Villanova

Ashton Gibbs scored 21 points and host No. 19 Pittsburgh upset No. 3 Villanova, 70-65, Sunday. Gilbert Brown added 16 points, including a thunderous dunk off a baseline move with 1:29 left that gave the Panthers (21-6, 10-4 Big East) a six-point lead. Scottie Reynolds finished with 20 points for the Wildcats (22-4, 11-3).

Marquette beats Cincy

Lazar Hayward hit a three-pointer that sent the game to overtime and added five more points while rallying Marquette (17-9, 8-6 Big East) to a 79-76 victory over host Cincinnati (15-11, 6-8).

Turner leads Ohio State

Evan Turner scored 20 points and No. 9 Ohio State (21-7. 11-4 Big Ten) earned a 74-67 win over host No. 11 Michigan State (21-7, 11-4 Big Ten).

Prahalis, Ohio State fall

Brittney Thomas scored 19 points, including two clinching free throws in overtime, to lead Michigan State to a 71-68 victory over the seventh-ranked Buckeyes. Ohio State's Samantha Prahalis took the blame for suddenly losing her touch at the line. "I couldn't close it out," said Prahalis, who had hit 47 straight free throws coming in but missed seven of 11 foul shots. The former Commack High star finished with 17 points.

Nets lose No. 51

Rudy Gay scored 29 points and the Memphis Grizzlies rallied from an 18-point first-half deficit to defeat the Nets, 104-94, at the IZOD Center. Brook Lopez had 26 points to lead the Nets (5-51).

Magic upends Cavaliers

Dwight Howard had 22 points and 16 rebounds in a bruising battle with Shaquille O'Neal and the host Orlando Magic beat the Cleveland Cavaliers, 101-95. O'Neal made his first eight shots and finished with 20 points, and LeBron James had 33 for the Cavaliers.

Nuggets overcome Celtics

J.R. Smith scored 16 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter and the host Denver Nuggets recovered from blowing an early 20-point lead to beat the Boston Celtics, 114-105. Chauncey Billups had 26 points and Carmelo Anthony had 23 for the Nuggets, who are 4-0 against the top three teams in the East. Ray Allen led the Celtics with 25 points.

Federer ill, out of Dubai

Roger Federer has withdrawn from the Dubai Championships because of a lung infection. Organizers said that the top-ranked Swiss star picked up the infection last week and will miss the $2-million event, which starts Monday. -- AP
