Newsday Boys Bowler of the Year: Luke Jovans, Commack, Jr.

Luke Jovans was the best bowler on Long Island this year and it wasn’t particularly close. The junior increased his average to 233.64 this season, a five-pin improvement from last year and nine pins better than the next closest finisher. His 802 series was the best for a boys bowler on Long Island.

Jovans dominance translated to team success as the Cougars won the League III title, finishing a perfect regular season at 16-0 and ultimately won their second county championship in the past three seasons. They capped off the season with the team’s first state championship.

“It was a great experience. Going into the county championships, we were supposed to be the favorites and we got it done,” Jovans said. “I was ecstatic about how we started off strong at states. We performed even better than I expected.”
