For Vivienne Zangaro, dominance has become routine.

At the Webster Aquatic Center on Nov. 22, the Long Beach junior defended both of her state swimming titles. She captured the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 48.18 seconds and won the 500 freestyle in 4:44.60, shattering the previous state record of 4:46.97 set by Friends Academy’s Jessica Foschi in 1995.

Both performances marked significant improvements from her winning times a year ago.

“I’ve been working extremely hard to get my times down, and I think everyone around me has noticed it,” Zangaro said. “I do nine practices a week and lift three times a week, so I’ve definitely been putting in the work this year.”

While the competition keeps getting tougher, the Georgia commit is proud to still stand at the top.

“This year, the meet had gotten so much faster,” Zangaro said. “So to still come out on top feels really, really good.”

Entering the state meet at the Webster Aquatic Center on Nov. 21, the Manhasset senior owned four Nassau titles, a third-place state finish, and two state runner-up performances. She was missing just one thing.

Wang will continue her diving career at Harvard University.
