Miller Place defeated Smithtown East, 6-3, Monday in the Suffolk boys badminton team championships in a matchup of league co-champions at Half Hollow Hills East.

Jesse Deitrichson led the Panthers (13-2) to a win in No. 1 singles (16-17, 15-2, 15-13) over Eric Hirschfield. Nick Simoes and Yigit Gol were Miller Place's only winning doubles team, defeating Mike Carde and Dan Cassidy 15-11, 15-7.

Half Hollow Hills defeated Walt Whitman, 6-3, in the girls team championship, winning three singles and three doubles matches.

Jassmine Wasserman and Jessica Chen won, 15-2, 15-8, over Jen Smith and Siobhan Garagan at No. 1 doubles. Their 15-0 record matches the Thunder Colts' undefeated record. Sophomore Hannah Singer defeated Kristina Maimis at No. 1 singles, 11-7, 11-3. The individual championships are being held at Smithtown West Wednesday and Thursday at 2 p.m.

Russell wins. St. John the Baptist's Ashley Russell (6-0) won second singles at the CHSAA badminton championships, and St. Anthony's Brenna Falkowski (5-1) finished second.
