Because of a late-afternoon thunderstorm, Long Island’s quest to win the baseball competition has been postponed to Sunday, immediately following the completion of the suspended bronze-medal game. Figure on Long Island vs. Central New York to start around 11 a.m.

I went from one extreme to the other after the baseball game was postponed. It was hot, humid and raining when I darted for cover in the ice hockey arena, which was – no surprise – frigid. Fortunately, I had my windbreaker in my car, though it kind of clashed with my flowered shirt and cargo shirts. Oh well …

Terrific hockey game. Al Arbour’s granddaughter Jaclyn Arbour scored three goals and an assist, but L.I. surrendered two goals in 15 seconds midway through the fourth quarter and lost, 5-4, to Western New York. Still, the Island earn a fourth straight Empire State Games medal. They’ve gone gold-silver-gold-silver since 2006, with a hiatus last year when the Games were cancelled.
