Kai Alversa leads Bridgehampton baseball to win in Class D state regional final

Kai Alversa went 4-for-4 with a double, triple, three RBIs and three runs scored and struck out 10 and allowed one hit, one walk and one unearned run in five innings to lead Bridgehampton to an 11-1 win in five innings over Eldred (Section IX) in the Class D state regional final at Lorenz Field in Saugerties on Saturday.
"The whole team was great today, but Kai did it all," coach Lou Liberatore said.
Alversa’s RBI single capped a seven-run fourth inning to give Bridgehampton a 10-0 lead. Tyler Fitzgerald’s two-run single started the rally. Alversa’s brother, Finn, added an RBI double and Elliott McGonegal had an RBI groundout. Chase Chmielewski added a two-run single.
Tate Foard had an RBI groundout in the first inning. Fitzgerald had three RBIs and Eli McCleland went 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Bridgehampton (6-11) will face Duanesburg (Section II) in the state semifinals at 1 p.m. on Friday at Union-Endicott High School.
