Newsday's top 10 Long Island high school baseball teams rankings

1. Stony Brook School (1): The Bears (22-2) are a private school that plays a non-league schedule against some of the top competition in the tri-state area. They were off this week but still sit atop the rankings.
2. Plainedge (2): The Red Devils (20-0) closed the regular season with an undefeated record. The pitching rotation of Jaxson Torres and Taylor Nitsch continues to be the standard. They allowed a total of three hits in a series and in Game 1 of the playoffs against Valley Stream North.
3. Massapequa (4): Massapequa (16-3-1) is once again proving to be the class of AAA on Long Island. They went a perfect 3-0 in a series sweep over Syosset this week, locking up the top spot in Nassau Class AAA playoffs.
4. Clarke (5): Matt Kurz continues to shine on the mound for the Rams (19-3). He tossed a six-hit shutout to lead the second-seeded Rams to a 6-0 win in the quarterfinals of the Nassau Class AA playoffs.
5. Longwood (7): The Lions (16-1) started the season with 14 straight wins before an 8-7 loss to Patchogue-Medford in Suffolk League I. The Lions closed the regular season winning five straight games.
6. Connetquot (8): DJ Filippone continues to dominate at the plate and on the bump. He threw a four-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and had a total of three hits, two RBIs, and a run. The T-Birds (17-3) have won seven straight league titles.
7. Eastport-South Manor (9): The Sharks (18-1) extended their winning streak to seven with wins over Comsewogue and Hills West. Thomas Gargiulo, Brady McGowan and Mason Gatchalian each had a home run in the second game against Comsewogue.
8. Bellmore JFK (10): The Cougars (16-4) got hot at the right time — the playoffs. They beat Bethpage 3-0 and Derek Yormack’s two-run homer in the sixth inning lifted the Cougars to a 6-5 win over MacArthur in Nassau Class AA.
9. Smithtown East (On the cusp): Dominic Suppa laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Conner DeLauzon for the 1-0 walk-off win over Northport. The Bulls (19-1) followed with an 11-9 win Wednesday for the sweep over the Tigers.
10. Kings Park (On the cusp): The Kingsmen (18-2) have a deep pitching rotation that wins close games. Led by Everett Zarzicki, Dylan Frers, Charlie Pace, Anthony Romano and Tyler Morgan they defeated Miller Place in their series with two of their three games decided by one run.
On the cusp: St. Anthony’s, Farmingdale, Garden City, West Islip, Wantagh, St. Dominic’s, Garden City.
