Big 10: Bay Shore softball leads the way

1. BAY SHORE SOFTBALL The Marauders appear unstoppable. They’re undefeated and have now outscored opponents, 154-8, having had shutouts in 11 of their 14 games. This week, Bay Shore outscored Ward Melville, Patchogue-Medford and Connetquot, 47-1.
2. GARDEN CITY GIRLS LACROSSE The Trojans kept rolling this week in Nassau Conference I. They beat North Shore, 16-9, behind three goals apiece from Caroline Tarzian, Alex Bruno and Shannon Mangini and then Tarzian, Mangini and Mikaela Rix each scored four goals in a 19-9 win over previously undefeated Manhasset to avenge last season’s overtime loss.
3. WEST ISLIP BOYS LACROSSE Andrew Hodgson scored four goals with five assists in a 16-9 victory over Connetquot. It was cruise control in a 13-1 romp over West Babylon. The Lions’ 10-game win streak will be tested tomorrow when they host Ward Melville.
4. COLD SPRING HARBOR BOYS TENNIS The Seahawks capped a 4-0 week by defeating previously unbeaten St. Anthony's, 5-2, to improve to 8-0.
5. ST. ANTHONY’S BOYS TRACK With Patrick Farmer, who set a meet record in the 400 (47.25) and Michael Brunoforte, who pole vaulted 13 feet, six inches at the Pratt Invitational in the fold, the Friars have continued to excel this season.
6. GARDEN CITY GIRLS TRACK The Trojans continue to run past the competition. Emily Menges won the 400 in 57.0 and 200 in 25.6 for the Trojans in a win over MacArthur and Carey.
7. ISLIP BASEBALL The pitching rotation of Edvardas Matsuvicius, Matt Espinal and Eddie Macaluso have held opponents hitters to a .218 batting average through 10 games.
8. NORTHPORT GIRLS LACROSSE The Tigers established themselves as the top team in Suffolk Division I with wins at Bay Shore, 17-9, Sachem East, 24-4 and West Babylon, 20-9. Shannon Gilroy scored 16 goals with seven assists in the three games.
9. MASSAPEQUA BOYS VOLLEYBALL The Chiefs lost their first game of the season against Plainview, but won the match in four. They continue on the road to a perfect record behind the combined efforts of brothers Brian and Christian Smith.
10. EAST MEADOW SOFTBALL East Meadow stumbled for the first time, suffering a 2-0 loss to Long Beach. The Jets were able to rebound with a 2-0 win over Farmingdale in which Lindsay McKillop pitched a three-hitter with 15 strikeouts and drove in both runs.

Bobby Vitulano, Hauppauge, baseball: Senior hit for the cycle in a win over Huntington. Finished the three-game series with 11 hits.
Kyle Demeo, Carey, baseball: Came on in relief and threw 4 2/3 innings of no-hit ball in an 11-1 win over Mepham in 12 innings He also had a three-run homer.
Kevin O’Shea, Half Hollow Hills West, boys lacrosse: Scored a career-high eight goals in leading the Colts to an 11-9 victory over Kings Park on Monday.
Richie Akapnitis, Hauppauge, boys lacrosse: Made six of his 20 saves in a tense fourth quarter as the Eagles handed East Hampton its first loss of the season, 10-9.
Sal Tuttle, Farmingdale, boys lacrosse: Scored four goals, including the winner with 47 seconds left, in a 10-9 win over Baldwin that kept the Dalers (9-2, 6-0) unbeaten in Conference I.
Samantha Giovaniello, Floral Park, softball: She pitched three shutouts and struck out 42 batters last week. She had a 10-inning no-hitter with a career-high 20 strikeouts in a 1-0 win over Sewanhaka.
