Big 10: Bay Shore tops with 20th 20-win season

1. BAY SHORE SOFTBALL With a 12-0 win over Central Islip, Bay Shore got its 20th consecutive 20-win season – a state record. The Marauders outscored this week’s opponents, 37-1, defeating Sachem North, Northport and Central Islip. In total, Bay Shore has outscored its opponents 224-14, including 13 shutouts. Taylor McGowan has thrown two no-hitters and a perfect game.
2. WEST ISLIP BOYS LACROSSE The Lions walloped Whitman, 18-8, for the 14th straight win since an opening-day overtime loss to Sachem North. Nicky Galasso is second on Long Island in scoring with 90 points, including 47 assists. A victory over Northport in today’s regular-season finale assures a No. 1 seed for the defending Class A state champions.
3. GARDEN CITY GIRLS LACROSSE In the regular season finale, the Trojans were tested but kept their record unblemished with a 15-11 win over visiting Wantagh. Junior Caroline Tarzian scored three goals with a career-high five assists, and Kelly Weis made 11 saves. The Conference I champions, who have won a Long Island-high 21 straight games.
4. COLD SPRING HARBOR BOYS TENNIS The Seahawks completed an undefeated regular season with wins over Port Washington and Jericho to finish at 13-0, 10-0 in Nassau Conference IA. Josh Levine, Eric Ambrosio, and Conor Dauer qualified for the county individual singles tournament.
5. MANHASSET BOYS LACROSSE Manhasset finished the regular season 15-0 with a 13-6 win over Seaford. The Indians own the longest winning streak in the state at 31 games and are the top seed for the Nassau Class C playoffs. The defending state champs' last loss was on April 7, 2009 in overtime against Comsewogue.
6. LINDENHURST BASEBALL The return of hard-throwing righty Tom Bammann gives the Bulldogs and even greater chance to win the Class AA title. Jon McGibbon, Jimmy Briggs and Mike Roehrig have been tearing it up offensively.
7. ST. ANTHONY’S BOYS LACROSSE The Friars reversed their only loss of the season by defeating Chaminade, 8-6. They also knocked off Westchester power Yorktown, 14-7, and are looking ahead to a possible third meeting with Chaminade in the CHSAA final on May 27.
8. ST. ANTHONY’S BOYS TRACK The unbeaten Friars are preparing for the CHSAA meet and the state tournament.
9. MASSAPEQUA BOYS VOLLEYBALL The Chiefs improved to 14-0 and continue to dominate on the way to the Nassau title.
10. GARDEN CITY GIRLS TRACK The undefeated Trojans get ready for the Nassau track championships.

Samantha Giovaniello, Floral Park, softball: The sophomore threw a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts and hit a grand slam to lead Floral Park over West Hempstead, 12-0, in the first round of the Class A playoffs.
Megan Henry, West Islip, softball: She struck out five and tossed a perfect game, a 1-0 win over Smithtown East.
Amanda Ramirez, Lindenhurst, softball: After missing three weeks with an ankle sprain, she returned to beat Sachem North, 7-1, pitching a two-hitter to clinch a playoff berth for Lindenhurst.
Jamie Hirsch, Lynbrook, boys track: He won the shot put (46-1) and the discus (130) at the Bulldog Invitational.
Michelle Rosenhouse, Half Hollow Hills West, girls golf: Finished round with an eagle and two birdies to shoot a 3-under par 29 at Dix Hills Golf Course, which is a Hills West girls record.
Glenn Cinelli, Farmingdale, baseball: He pitched a no-hitter for Farmingdale (9-4) in Nassau Conference AA-II against Long Beach, with 14 strikeouts and five walks.
Matt Dybus, Wantagh, baseball: He pitched a three-hitter with 14 strikeouts and went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs in Wantagh’s 11-0 win over Bethpage in the first round of the Class A playoffs.
Lee Vasilakos, St. Anthony’s, boys volleyball: had 30 assists and was named tournament MVP for No. 1 St. Anthony's (17-0) in a 25-12, 25-13, 25-21 win over No. 3 St. John the Baptist in the CHSAA finals at Adelphi.
