1. ST. ANTHONY’S FOOTBALL

The Friars beat Farrell, 41-26, in the season opener, rushing for 401 yards. Dariyan Riley had seven carries for 106 yards and a touchdown and Brian Sherlock added 59 yards on five carries and two TDs. They own Long Island’s longest current winning streak at 20.

2. BRENTOOD BOYS SOCCER

The defending state Class AA champions defeated Lindenhurst, 1-0. Carlos Menjivar scored in the 33rd minute on a pass from Jonathan Interiano and Juan Flores and Raul Bonilla combined for a shutout. Brentwood has a tough week with games against Ward Melville and Commack.

3. ST. ANTHONY’S GIRLS SOCCER

It took a few games but the Friars finally earned their first win of the season. Reanna Marino scored off a feed from Marissa Kristy to give St. Anthony’s a 1-0 win over St. John the Baptist for the first win of the season.

4. SHOREHAM-WADING RIVER FIELD HOCKEY

Debi-Michelle Jantzen had three goals and an assist in an 8-0 win Port Jefferson to open the season. The Wildcats will be tough to beat.

5. MASSAPEQUA BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Massapequa, the two-time defending Nassau champions, went 3-0 in three Conference matches last week, allowing no more than 15 points in any set.

6. FREEPORT FOOTBALL

Isaiah Barnes threw for 186 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 108 yards and another score to lead Freeport. Jere Brown had four catches for 62 yards and added a rushing touchdown for the defending Long Island Class I champions.

7. WARD MELVILLE BOYS SOCCER

Steven Nworjih had a goal and an assist in a 2-0 upset win over St. Anthony's on Saturday night. Jack Bruckner made eight saves in the win. Nworjih also had three goals in a 3-0 win over Smithtown West.

8. MASSAPEQUA GIRLS SOCCER

The opening week of the season was a perfect one for the defending state champs. Rosie DiMartino scored five goals in three games and Erica Modena added some timely goals to help the Chiefs get off to a 3-0 start. Keeper Emmalee Meyer and a rebuilt defense have allowed one goal.

9. NORTH SHORE GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

The Vikings, a three-time defending Nassau overall cross country champs and the NY State Class A reigning champ with their top five runners back. They begin the season this week.

10. GARDEN CITY FIELD HOCKEY

The Trojans beat Massapequa 1-0 to open the season and then found it a struggle in a 1-1 tie with Cold Spring Harbor. Jenna Fuchs scored with 12:25 to go to tie the game for Garden City.
