Big 10: Sachem East field hockey on top
The Flaming Arrows look unstoppable. Sachem East won its three games last week, outscoring opponents 15-0. Kayla McKeveny (16 points) and Katie Trombetta (15) are Long Island's top two scorers.
Junior Joe Capobianco threw for two touchdowns as the Golden Tornadoes rolled to a 57-27 win over Valley Stream South. Lawrence scored 44 first-half points and leads Long Island with 207 points in a 4-0 start.
The Indians defeated Sachem North, 1-0, and Sachem East, 3-1. Carlos Escobar scored in the win over Sachem North and Ever Torres scored two goals in the win over Sachem East. The Indians (7-0) have outscored opponents 35-3.
Seven players contributed goals as Garden City beat Floral Park, 8-0, in its only game last week. The Trojans (5-0) still haven't been scored upon and have allowed only 10 shots on goal. Garden City has a chance to make a big statement in non-league games against Ward Melville (Saturday) and Sachem East (Monday).
A great week for the Friars, who beat Martin Luther King, 2-0. MLK was ranked No. 2 in the country by the NSCAA. Brendan Reardon and Joe Busuttil each scored in the win. Reardon had one goal and two assists in a 5-1 win over Iona Prep.
Senior Zach Sirico threw for one score and ran for another as the Golden Flashes extended Long Island's longest win streak to 16 with a 35-7 win over Westhampton.
In a showdown between two unbeatens in Nassau Conference A-I, South Side cruised to a 4-0 win over Garden City. Megan Albertsen's first varsity goal and Keri Cavallo's two-goal, one-assist performance were keys to the win.
8. NORTH SHORE GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Elizabeth Caldwell finished eighth overall with a time of 18:03.7 in the Race of Champions at the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, N.C.
The defending Long Island champions have yet to drop a set this season and have five straight victories. The Chiefs swept Oceanside this week.
Syosset rolled, making another victory look easy. The Braves continued to dominate Nassau, sweeping Jericho, 7-0, to remain undefeated.
