Big ten: There's a new number 1 in town...

1. WEST ISLIP BOYS LACROSSE We have a new number one. The Lions, ranked No. 1 in the nation by Inside Lacrosse, extended their winning streak to 16 with a 13-9 Suffolk Class A semifinal victory over Connetquot. West Islip faces No. 2 seed Ward Melville for the county title on Thursday at 8 p.m. at Stony Brook University. The Lions defeated Ward Melville in last year’s title game en route to a state championship.

2. GARDEN CITY GIRLS LACROSSE It comes as no surprise that the top-seeded Trojans will be playing for their sixth straight Nassau Class B title at 6 p.m. today at Hofstra against No. 2 Wantagh. They reached the final with a 17-5 win at home over No. 5 Plainedge behind three goals each from Katie D'Antonio and Caroline Tarzian. Eleven girls tallied a goal for Garden City, which has won a Long Island-high 23 games in a row and has outscored its two playoff opponents 35-7.

3. COLD SPRING HARBOR BOYS TENNIS The Seahawks won their third straight Long Island championship, defeating Half Hollow Hills East, 6-1. Eric Ambrosio beat Zain Ali, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 at second singles and eighth-graders Jon Paris and Conor Mullins won the deciding match at second doubles to lead CSH to a three-peat.

4. MANHASSET BOYS LACROSSE The Indians rolled past Seaford, 19-3, in a Nassau Class C semifinal behind 10 different goal-scorers. For the seventh straight year, Manhasset faces rival Cold Spring Harbor in the Class C title game, played 6 p.m. tomorrow at Hofstra. Each has won three of the last six championships with the Indians taking it last season en route to a state title.

5. LINDENHURST BASEBALL The Bulldogs host Longwood in the Suffolk Class AA finals today at 4 p.m. The big bats of Mike Roehrig. Jon McGibbon, Alex Genao and Steve Skon have moved the Bulldogs closer to the title.

6. BAY SHORE SOFTBALL Bay Shore (22-1) lost its first game of the season to Whitman, 3-2, on Saturday in Game 1 of the Suffolk Class AA finals. Liz Weber had a perfect game going into the sixth inning before allowing three runs on two hits and a walk. The Marauders still have a chance to right the ship, though.

7. ST. ANTHONY’S BOYS LACROSSE What a way to end the season. The Friars outlasted their rivals, Chaminade, 9-8, in overtime in the Class AAA CHSAA championship game that began on Thursday, was suspended because of lightning, on Thursday with the score tied at 7, and resumed Friday.

8. ST. ANTHONY’S BOYS TRACK St. Anthony's kept rolling right along as senior distance runner Kenneth Walshak helped lead the team to a CHSAA Intersectional championship on May 23. Walshak won the 3,000 steeplechase in 9:51.34. Patrick Farmer won the 400 in 47.58, while Payton Hazzard won the 800 in 1:58.02.

9. NORTHPORT GIRLS LACROSSE Shannon Gilroy, Suffolk's leading scorer, returned from a hamstring injury, with matching six-goal, one-assist performances in playoff victories over No. 9 Ward Melville (19-13 in the quarterfinals) and No. 4 West Babylon (18-12 in the semis). The Tigers will try for their third straight Suffolk Class A title when they face No. 3 Bay Shore at 3 p.m. tomorrow at the Dowling Sports Complex.

10.MASSAPEQUA BOYS VOLLEYBALL The Chiefs dominance continued with a Nassau championship win over Port Washington. They won the title in five games.

Justin Wilson, Floral Park, boys track: He cleared a career-high 6 feet, 10 inches on the high jump and took home the Nassau Class A county title.

Marlene Ricketts, Westbury, boys track: The Penn State-bound senior won the triple jump in 40 feet, 2 3/4 inches in the county track championships.

Matt Csillag, Syosset, boys golf: The eighth-grader parred a one-hole playoff to earn a spot on the Nassau state team.

Shelby Vaccaro, Bay Shore, girls lacrosse: She scored the game-winner with 3:44 to play in the No. 3 Marauders' upset of No. 2 West Islip in the Suffolk Class A semifinals. She had two goals and an assist.

Brandan Mangan, Wantagh, boys lacrosse: Scored six goals, including three in a span of 3:19 in the fourth quarter, as Wantagh pulled away to beat Lynbrook, 11-8, in a Nassau Class B semifinal.

Tom Schreiber, St. Anthony’s, boys lacrosse: Playing in his final high school game, the Princeton-bound middie scored four goals with two assists and fed Colin Clive for the game-winner in a 9-8 overtime victory over Chaminade for the Class AAA CHSAA title.

Samantha Giovaniello, Floral Park, softball: The sophomore led the Knights to a second straight Nassau Class A championship, pitching a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts in a 1-0 win over Plainedge in Game 3 of the finals. She also drove in the run. In Game 1 of the series, which went 15 innings, she struck out 28.

Kerri Apicella, Oyster Bay, softball: She threw a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts and hit a two-run homer in leading Oyster Bay over Carle Place, 6-0, in Game 3 of the Class B finals.
