Hicksville’s Colleen Kingsepp has been a part of the Nassau girls bowling sectional team the past two seasons, but one thing has eluded her.
A Nassau individual title.
“It is always a dream to be first at the county tournament,” Kingsepp said. “I wanted to go out with a bang this year, but never thought I would get first.”
Think again.
On Saturday afternoon at Garden City Lanes, the senior rolled the high game of the day with a 209 in Game 6 of a 1,063 six-game series to win the Nassau individual championship.
“It still hasn’t set in yet, I am still in shock,” Kingsepp said. “It feels amazing. I am truly at a loss for words.”
MacArthur’s Amanda Petrillo, who led the tournament after five games, was second with a 1,057. The senior finished the regular season with the highest average in Nassau (203.56).
“To go to states is like the culmination of the past few years, it’s all coming together now,” Petrillo said. “I started bowling in eighth grade . . . I tried out for the basketball team in seventh grade and didn’t make it. Then, one of my friends told me to try out for the bowling team and now I am here.”
Clarke’s Arianna Fracchioni, who ranked 16th in average (160.16), placed third with a 997. Jahnia Phillips (Sewanhaka) was fourth with a 924, and Port Washington’s Sarah Chung (911) and Joyce Lin (888) placed fifth and sixth respectively.
The six bowlers will represent the Nassau girl’s sectional team at the state tournament, March 10-11, at The Oncenter Civic Center in Syracuse.
“It is very chaotic up there, but it’s also amazing because you have all these different teams performing,” Kingsepp said. “I think we are going to do really well up there and really seem to jell well together.”
