Long Island Bowler of the Year: Adam Zimmerman, Deer Park, Sr.

Well, that didn't take very long.

Adam Zimmerman set a Long Island record with a 241.83 average this season, breaking the mark of 237.42 he set last year.

But he didn't stop there.

The Deer Park senior rolled a 263 in Game 2 of a 1,415 six-game series to win the high series award at the state sectional championship tournament.

"It's been unbelievable," said Zimmerman, who bowled a perfect game on Dec. 9. "I wouldn't have thought my senior year would have ended like this."

On his six years as a varsity starter, Zimmerman added: "It's something I'm never going to forget. No matter what [future] accomplishments I have in bowling, I'm always going to have this in my head."

Nick Caruana, Sachem East, Sr.

Caruana led the combined Sachem to the state crown with a tournament-best 1,384 six-game series. He was No. 3 in the county with a 232.42 average this season.

Anthony Naujokas, Sachem North, Sr.

Naujokas had the second-highest series at states with a 1,325 and averaged a 226.18, combining with Caruana to give Sachem a strong 1-2 punch.

Kurt Schall, Centereach, Jr.

Middle Country's Schall had the second highest average in Suffolk with a 237.88. He bowled a 300 in Game 1 of the Suffolk Championship and had a 265 in Game 6 of a 1,285 series at the state sectional championship.

Brandon Soedarmasto, Division, Sr.

Soedarmasto was a cut above the rest in Nassau for the third consecutive year, leading the county with a 239.10 average. He bowled a 300 on Dec. 9, and impressed at the state sectionals with a 1,246 six-game series.

Coach of the Year: Brian Weinstein, Sachem

Sachem lived up to its high expectations in its first season as a combined team and rolled to a state championship behind Caruana and Naujokas, two crosstown rivals-turned teammates. The Flaming Arrows had a 13-1 record.
