Rocky Point 8th-grader Brandon Epp rolls perfect game
Brandon Epp, an eighth-grader from Rocky Point Middle School playing on the high school varsity bowling team, rolled a 300 — his first perfect game — in Game 3 of a 723 series to lead Rocky Point (1-1) in its 2-1 win over Eastport-South Manor Thursday.
“I was stoked,” Epp said. “I was really happy. I knew I could’ve done it. I just stuck with the same shot. Everyone started screaming and jumping with joy. I was just happy.”
Epp steadily built up to perfection, rolling a 177 in Game 1 and a 246 in Game 2. Rocky Point coach Anthony Vertuccio said Epp was making the mistake of turning his shoulder early on, but started to improve after making an adjustment.
“His first game he was off a bit and I was trying to figure out why,” Vertuccio said. “I asked him if he was feeling pressured and he said, ‘No coach, not at all, I don’t think like that.’ ”
Added Vertuccio: “I’m so happy for him, he’s a great kid. He doesn’t celebrate himself, he celebrates that team. For an eighth-grader to bowl like that, he just amazes me.”
