West Islip boys lacrosse ushers in next Busking brothers duo with Chase and Kyle Busking

West Islip senior Chase Busking trotted behind the cage of East Islip goalie Luke Rochford midway through the third quarter, waiting for a teammate to cut in. His younger brother, freshman Kyle Busking, suddenly burst through as the pass found his stick for a quick score.
For years, Chase received that type of feed from older brother Derek, a 2025 graduate, and vice versa. The two played for West Islip, which fell to East Islip in the county final in both 2024 and 2025 on the same field the two boys lacrosse teams played on Friday at East Islip Middle School.
Now, Chase is the older brother to an up-and-coming Busking sibling, and his three goals and one assist showed how impressive the Busking family continues to be as West Islip defeated East Islip, 7-6, in Suffolk’s Division II.
“It’s awesome, it gives me flashbacks to me and Derek and what we used to do on the field,” Chase said. “[Kyle] is definitely capable of filling into my shoes, and I’m definitely capable of filling into Derek’s shoes, with me feeding and him as a finisher.”
Six minutes after the brothers connected for the first time Friday, Kyle returned the favor by passing to Chase, who dodged and ripped a shot to give West Islip a 5-3 lead with 2:37 left in the third quarter. After a goal from East Islip’s Owen Madden, West Islip (2-0) added a sixth goal from Lukas Haugen after Will Schwarz scooped a ground ball from yet another faceoff win courtesy of Lucas Dumond, who won 11 of 16 faceoffs.
“Will Schwarz is an attackman, a middie, a defenseman; he does everything for us,” West Islip coach Sean McAleavey said. “So, when we’re in a big moment, and we need a ground ball, we move him right there. Dumond is the same way … He’s primed and ready to go.”
With little time left on the shot clock, West Islip's AJ Gentile quickly wrapped around the goal, faked a shot and slipped the ball into the bottom-right corner with 2:30 left in the game to break the 6-6 tie.

East Islip nearly scored the equalizer with 15 seconds remaining, but goalie Brendan McMahon made his seventh and most important stop.

East Islip (1-1) struggled in the offensive third with unforced turnovers, especially with the swinging sticks of West Islip defensemen Angelo Lanteri and Max Tate. East Islip coach Tom Zummo said a flu breakout had impacted over a week of practice reps, which didn’t help a lineup featuring several first-year starters after graduating a large senior class.
Rochford, an eighth-grader, impressed with eight saves.
“We have a lot of guys who have never had this experience before,” Zummo said. “It was a great learning experience, and I think we’ll get stronger because of it.”
