Connor Gill's goal helps Commack upset Brentwood
Christian Buonavita fed Connor Gill for the winning goal in the 32nd minute for Commack in a 1-0 upset of Brentwood in Suffolk League I boys soccer Monday.
Ryan Sinnott had two of his five saves late in the second half, leading a defense that Commack coach Dave Viegas said put forth a "gritty" performance.
It was the first win for Commack (3-2) over Brentwood since 2010, Viegas said. Jose Cerna had four saves for Brentwood (4-1).
Ward Melville 1, Sachem East 0: Conor MacAvoy's goal, assisted by Nikita Pustovoit in the 23rd minute, won it for Ward Melville (4-1) in League I. Chris Dill made four saves in the first half and Patrick Roarty added five saves in the second half for the Patriots. Chris Gutierrez had six saves for Sachem East.
Whitman 1, Central Islip 0: Robin Bolanos scored off his own rebound in the 52nd minute to win it for Whitman (6-0). Dan Zagorski had seven saves for Whitman, which takes sole possession of first place in League II ahead of Central Islip (5-1).
Lindenhurst 2, Connetquot 1: Mario Licari scored the winning goal off a feed from Matt Pisciotta with 34 seconds left for Lindenhurst (1-4-1) in League II.
Hauppauge 2, East Islip 1: P.J. Contreras scored the winning goal with 3:30 left for Hauppauge (4-1-1) in League IV. Nick Scozzari had a goal and an assist and Joe Scudero had seven saves in the win.
Half Hollow Hills West 5, West Babylon 2: Cole Tobias' header off a Mossah Khanat corner kick in the 48th minute put Hills West (7-0-1) up 4-0 in League IV. Khanat finished with a goal and two assists.
Farmingdale 3, East Meadow 1: Milton Alvarez scored on a breakaway set up by a through ball from Steven Cain in the 37th minute for Farmingdale (6-0) in Nassau Conference AA-II. Nader Golshar scored twice, including a goal from the top of the box in the 64th minute to seal the win for the Dalers.
Wantagh 2, Jericho 0: Anthony Testa had a goal in the 27th minute and an assist to guide Wantagh (4-0-1) in Nassau Conference A-I. Patrick Quigley scored in the 29th minute in the win. Lucas Neroda made three saves for his fifth shutout of the season.
GIRLS SOCCERMassapequa 2, Farmingdale 1: Amanda Garrity scored in the 50th minute to give Massapequa (7-0) a 2-0 lead in Nassau Conference AA-I.
MacArthur 2, Oceanside 2: Nicole Greenwald and Ariana Montefusco scored in the 12th and 32nd minutes, respectively, to give MacArthur (2-1-3) a 2-0 lead in Conference AA-I. Julia Duffy and Jules Sicker scored in the 75th and 77th minutes for Oceanside (0-3-3).
Syosset 2, Port Washington 1: Sarah Solomon and Sam Kubrick put Syosset (2-2-1) up 2-0 midway through the second half in Conference AA-II.
Island Trees 1, Manhasset 0: Alicia Buchanan scored the winner off a rebound of a shot from Michelle Merrill with 34 seconds left for Island Trees (5-1) in Conference ABC-II.
Sewanhaka 2, Malverne-East Rockaway 1: Jancarla Herrera's second goal of the game, off a pass from Shantel Oliver midway through the second half, gave Sewanhaka (2-3) a 2-0 lead in Conference ABC-V.
Islip 1, Eastport-South Manor 0: Hannah Franco scored in the 58th minute off an assist from Mary O'Hara for Islip (4-1) in Suffolk League V.
Miller Place 2, Glenn 1: Kara Patrovic scored the winner in the 26th minute for Miller Place (4-1) in League VI. Brianne Ceccio's goal tied the score earlier in the half for Miller Place.
