Dunn's penalty kick wins it for VS South
Brandon Dunn scored in the seventh round of penalty kicks as No. 1 Valley Stream South overcame a three-goal deficit against No. 16 Seaford and prevailed, 7-6, on penalty kicks Friday in a Nassau Class A first-round boys soccer game.
Brandon Garrett had five saves and made a stop on Seaford's final attempt in the penalty session. VSS rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the second and tied it on Yves Monsia's second goal with 10 minutes left. Brian McHugh scored three goals for Seaford. VSS will face No. 9 Jericho in a quarterfinal Tuesday.
Valley Stream North 2, Hewlett 0: Marvin Eveillard score twice in the second half for No. 14 North (8-5-3) in an upset of No. 3 Hewlett in a Nassau Class A first-round game. VSN will play at No. 6 Great Neck North in a quarterfinal Tuesday.
Garden City 2, Plainedge 1: Sean Bingham had an assist and scored with 28:45 left to give No. 10 Garden City (10-3-2) a 2-0 lead in a Class A first-round game. Garden City will play at No. 2 Island Trees in a quarterfinal at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Mepham 1, Uniondale 0: Harly Hosty scored off a pass from Dante Ippolito in the 25th minute and Steve Fotinos stopped nine shots for No. 9 Mepham (9-6) in a Nassau Class AA first-round game. Mepham visits No. 1 Hicksville in a quarterfinal at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Hempstead 6, Calhoun 2: William Botty and Ives Manzanarez each scored twice to lead No. 6 Hempstead (8-3-2) over No. 11 Calhoun in a Class AA first-round game. Hempstead will face Elmont on Tuesday.
Long Island Lutheran 5, Waldorf 2: Nick Gandalfo scored a goal in both overtime periods for No. 1 Lutheran (14-5-1) in the IPPSAL final. Gandalfo broke a tie at 2 on a breakaway goal with three minutes left in the first overtime and scored off a cross from Glenn Boehmer with four minutes left in the second OT to make it 4-2.

Our Lady of Mercy 7, Holy Trinity 1: Stefanie Pia and Ashley Maldanado each scored twice and Erin Allen had three assists as No. 1 Our Lady of Mercy (12-4) earned its second straight CHSAA Division A title. Shannon Brady had a goal and an assist and Madison Fressle made seven saves.
Kellenberg 3, St. John the Baptist 2: Christina Akalski headed in her second goal off a pass from Amanda Barocca with eight minutes left to win it for No. 1 Kellenberg (12-1-1) in a CHSAA Division AA semifinal. Kellenberg's Lisa Abramski scored midway through the second to tie it at 2. Haley Stewart scored twice for SJB. Kellenberg will play No. 2 St. Anthony's in the final at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Adelphi.
Syosset 2, East Meadow 1: Gianna Romano scored twice, including the winner in the second OT to lift No. 11 Syosset (11-4) over No. 6 East Meadow in a Nassau Class AA first-round game. Syosset plays No. 3 Massapequa in a quarterfinal at 6 p.m. Monday at Burns Park.
Connetquot 1, Patchogue-Medford 0: Dawn Hickey scored the winner with three minutes left for No. 14 Connetquot (8-7) in a Suffolk Class AA outbracket game. Connetquot plays at No. 3 East Islip at 2:30 p.m. Monday.
Sachem East 2, Eastport-South Manor 1: Laurie Semetsis scored the winner with 29 seconds left off a rebound for No. 13 Sachem East (8-6-2) in a Class AA outbracket game. Freshman Kayla Gansrow scored 19 minutes into the second to tie the score at 1 for Sachem East, which will play at No. 4 West Islip in the first round at 2:30 p.m. Monday.
