The ball wasn't getting to the feet of Cameron Eiseman enough, so the West Islip forward was moved to midfield with 12 minutes left in regulation and the Lions trailing by two goals. It turned out to be a wise move.
Eiseman played a part in three unanswered goals to give host West Islip a 3-2 overtime win over East Islip Saturday in a non-league boys soccer game.
Eiseman picked up a loose ball in the midfield, drove through the defense and slid a through ball to Colin O'Connor, who scored four minutes into overtime for the winner.
"He's been our best player since preseason started," West Islip coach Eddie Pieron said of Eiseman. "He's one of our top forwards. Some big things are expected from him this season."
And the senior delivered in the first game. Eiseman scored with 10 minutes left in regulation to bring the Lions within 2-1 and he added another goal with four minutes left to tie the score at 2.
"We just happened to finally get a goal," Pieron said. "We missed some opportunities earlier in the game. By moving Eiseman to the midfield, he was able to get the ball more."
Paul Cefalu and Keith McKenna scored first-half goals for East Islip.
"It really shows me what the kids are made of," Pieron said. "I told the kids at halftime to just win the second half."
