High school boys soccer beat: Scheck credits camp
BOYS SOCCERSayville's Scheck credits camp
Sayville's Dan Scheck attended a camp at Temple University during the summer; an experience Scheck says has been beneficial to him this season.
" taught me a lot," Scheck said. "I enjoyed it a lot; it was a lot of fun."
After a strong showing at Temple's camp, Scheck, who plays goalkeeper and forward for the Golden Flashes, received a scholarship offer from the Owls, which he recently accepted.
Scheck has contributed in Sayville's six shutouts and been a force on offense as well.
"Sometimes it's difficult to figure out where he's better, he's a great goalkeeper and he's a great field player," Sayville coach Val Winter said. "I wish there were two of him."
L.I. has four powerful teams
Long Island is well represented in the latest Powerade Fab 50 ESPN Rise national rankings with four teams making the cut.
St. Anthony's is ranked No. 10 after opening the season at No. 5. St. John the Baptist is the most surprising at No. 14 after beating Chaminade, 2-0, last week. SJB returns just one starter. Chaminade, which tied St. Anthony's, 0-0, Thursday, is ranked 15th. Commack is No. 31, courtesy of a 1-0 win over Brentwood, which was ranked 48th in the preseason.
