Kirschner helps Hills East hand West Islip first loss
Tyler Kirschner scored off an assist from Jake Freeman 25 minutes into the second half as Half Hollow Hills East edged West Islip, 1-0, Friday in Suffolk League II boys soccer.
It was the first league loss of the season for West Islip (10-1-1), which holds a one-game lead over Hills East (9-2-1) in League II. Hills East goalkeeper Jordan Gross made 11 saves for his seventh shutout of the season. West Islip keeper Nick Policastro made 12 saves in the loss.Hicksville 2, East Meadow 1: Tim Parker scored his second goal of the game midway through the second half off an assist from Jimmy Myers to lead Hicksville (12-0) in Nassau Conference II. Parker has 23 goals this season.
Port Washington 4, MacArthur 0: Senior Will Sandoval scored a career-high three goals to lead Port Washington (4-3-3) in Conference II. His goal in the 37th minute gave the Vikings a 1-0 lead. His second goal was a header in the 48th minute.Portledge 2, Packer Collegiate 1: Nick Leask scored off an assist from Zachary Hescheles 20 minutes into the first half to give Portledge a 2-0 lead in the semifinals of the Portledge Tournament. The Panthers will play Friends Seminary in the final at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Calhoun 3, Valley Stream Central 1: Kayla Cappuzzo broke a tie at 1 in the 58th minute to lead Calhoun (8-2-1) in Conference III. Taylor Sipos scored in the 77th minute for the final margin.Bay Shore 5, Brentwood 0: Caroline DeLyra scored 33 seconds into the first overtime on a feed from Corinne Schmidt as Bay Shore (3-10) scored five goals in two overtime periods in nonleague. Erica Silhan had two goals and DeLyra and Schmidt added a goal and an assist. Goalkeepers Marissa Brightman (seven) and Andrea Yugcha totaled nine saves for Bay Shore.
Half Hollow Hills West 3, Half Hollow Hills East 1: Julia DiMaria scored a goal off an assist from Christina Guilherme with two minutes left in the first half to break a tie at 1 for Hills West (12-1) in non-league.
Smithtown Christian 7, Pierson/Bridgehampton 0: Christina Casamassina recorded four goals to lead Smithtown Christian (11-0-0) in League VIII. Goalkeeper Hannah Steffens made four saves for her sixth shutout.FIELD HOCKEY
Sewanhaka 3, Great Neck South 2: Michelle Mongiello scored three times, including the winner in overtime as Sewanhaka (5-6-1) overcame a 2-0 deficit in the second half in Conference II. Mongiello scored twice in a four-minute span in the second half to force overtime.
Centereach 1, Whitman 0: Alana Martin scored off an assist from Pamela Jordan 14:14 into the first half for Centereach in a Division I game. Elida Alfaro made four saves for her first shutout.
GIRLS TENNIS
Syosset 4, Garden City 3: Ashley Sandler defeated Morgan Herman at second singles, 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, in the clinching match for No. 1 Syosset (13-1) in the Nassau Conference I championship. Rithaka Reddy defeated Alyssa Rosello at third singles, 7-5, 6-3, for Syosset, which advances to the Long Island team championship.
MacArthur 4, Carle Place 3: Nina Juszcbak and Brianne Dorney defeated Chrissy Schnabel and Devin Deveau, 6-1, 6-2, at second doubles for MacArthur (11-1) in the second round of the Conference III playoffs. MacArthur will play in the conference championship next week in Garden City.

Elmont 3, Bethpage 1: Ashley McCarthy had 28 kills, 25 digs and nine aces and Stacy Chukwuma added 32 assists and three aces for Elmont in a 25-19, 25-14, 14-25, 25-15 win in Conference A-II.
Port Washington 3, Syosset 2: Haley Kerr had 15 kills, Kristen Courage had 17 kills and three aces and Jamie Coopersmith added 25 digs to help Port Washington (13-1) overcome an 0-2 deficit in a 18-25, 19-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-22 win in Conference AA-II.
GIRLS SWIMMING
Patchogue-Medford 150.675, Mount Sinai 138.275: Megan Halloran won the floor (9.1) and Marina Nugent took second (9.0) to lead Patchogue-Medford (3-2). Cassie Lynagh led the way for Mt. Sinai, finishing first on bars (7.85), second on beam (9.0) and second on floor (8.9).
Smithtown 165.2, Whitman 164.4: Sarah Peters won the beam (9.2) for Smithtown (4-2) in League I.
