Preseason Top 10
1. St. Anthony’s: The defending CHSAA champions return most of the team and are ranked fifth nationally in the FAB 50 ESPN Rise rankings. Senior midfielder Andrew LoManto and senior defender Matt Wendelken lead the way.
2. Chaminade: The Flyers are ranked ninth in the same poll. Senior goalkeeper Ricky Berroti and senior defender Mike Lobben anchor a defense that allowed just eight goals last season.
3. Brentwood: The Indians graduated 16 players, but return 15 that have experience, including senior forward Julio Olivares and senior midfielder Frank Guzman. Brentwood has appeared in four of the last five state Class AA finals.
4. Ward Melville: The Patriots lost a lot, but still have a lot of talent. Senior goalkeeper Matt Kerman and senior midfielder Christian Marcel are ones to watch.
5. Farmingdale: A senior-laden squad led by defender Michael Doller, midfielder Austin Wertheimer and forward Fabricio Bustillo. Expect the Dalers to make a serious run at the Nassau Class AA crown.
6. Half Hollow Hills West: Hills West lost in the championship game last season to Brentwood and will score a lot of goals. The offense has weapons with junior forward Donovan Fraser, senior forward Justin Connor and freshman forward Dylan Greenberg.
7. Hicksville: Many coaches consider defender/midfielder Timmy Parker, who has committed to St. John's, to be the best player in the county. Hicksville is the defending Nassau Class AA champions.
8. Commack: Commack was decimated by graduation. It does have a lot of depth and junior forward Jack Miller and senior defender Alex Joseph lead a team to watch.
9. South Side: Senior Jeff Cohen leads the defense for the Cyclones, who will make a strong push to repeat as Nassau Class A champs.
10. Newfield: Junior midfielder Sam Durkot and senior forward Steven Lopes anchor a senior-laden squad.
