Cheema spurs Whitman over Hills East
Banyal Cheema had nine points, including a three-pointer with 1:35 left, to give Whitman a seven-point lead in a 47-46 win over Half Hollow Hills East Tuesday in a Suffolk League II boys basketball game.
Whitman's Kieran Elmore scored eight points, including a late three-pointer. Travaun Patron had 13 points and six steals, and Darrell Felder eight points and 13 rebounds for Whitman.
Riverhead 65, Smithtown East 63: Ryan Bitzer (15 points) hit a three-pointer to give Riverhead (2-2 League III) a 65-60 lead with 26 seconds left in overtime. Tyrell Sims' free throw tied the score at 56 with 18 seconds left in regulation for Riverhead. Brandon Tolliver had 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Blue Wave.
Herricks 76, Carey 66: Andrew Fellus scored 11 of his 28 points during a 26-5 second quarter that gave Herricks (4-1) a 43-25 halftime lead in Nassau Conference AA-III. Fellus also had seven assists and five rebounds and George Malonoukos had 21 points, 13 rebounds, six assists and three blocked shots.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Uniondale 41, Freeport 37: Aliyah McDonald had 15 points and Sakara Hester-Torres 12 points, including a floater with 44 seconds left to give Uniondale (4-1) a 38-36 lead in Nassau Conference AA-I.
Patchogue-Medford 39, Brentwood 37: Kiera Murray had 14 points, including two free throws with a minute left to win it for Patchogue-Medford (2-2) in League I.
Northport 67, Central Islip 48: Allie Pavanielli had 13 points and Kristen Cleary 12 points for Northport (4-0) in League II. Central Islip's Brenda Hornedo hit eight three-pointers and scored 33 points.
