Cirella helps Syosset win in girls tennis
Katie Cirella defeated Olga Kosheva at third singles, 6-3, 6-2, for No. 1 Syosset in a 6-1 win over No. 2 Port Washington Monday in the Nassau Division I girls tennis county championship. It's the third consecutive championship for Syosset (16-0). Syosset's Haley O'Rourke and Alexa Sternschein defeated Holly Hubsher and Robin Mehta at second doubles, 6-4, 6-1.Bethpage 4, Valley Stream South 3:Chelsea Levy and Christine Ryan defeated Doris Chery and Ammarah Sattar, 6-1, 6-4, in fourth doubles to clinch the match for Bethpage (10-1) in the Conference IV semifinals. Bethpage hosts Wantagh in the finals at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Carle Place 5, Glen Cove 2:Dhara Kadakia defeated Alexandra Gerin, 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5), in first singles for Carle Place (11-3) in the Conference III semifinals.
Friends Academy 4, Massapequa 3:Julia Carduillo defeated Alexandra Dananberg at second singles, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1, to lead Friends Academy (13-2) in a Conference II semifinal. Friends Academy will play Cold Spring Harbor in the finals at 3:30 p.m. today at Garden City.Cold Spring Harbor 7, Wheatley 0:Olivia Bahou defeated Kelsey Shields, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, in first singles for Cold Spring Harbor (12-2) in a Conference II semifinal.
