Cole leads Carle Place to softball title
Ashley Cole struck out 12 and allowed two runs on five hits Tuesday as top seed Carle Place beat No. 3 East Rockaway, 14-2, for the Nassau Class B softball championship.
It was the fourth title in five years for Carle Place (18-2-1), which swept the best-of-three series, 2-0.
Taylor Ruscillo had a three-run double during a five-run fifth for Carle Place.
Amanda Machado went 2-for-5 with an RBI, Leanne Iannucci had a two-run single and Dana McLaughlin had two hits and two runs for Carle Place, which will play the Suffolk Class B champion in the Long Island title game June 7.
BOYS GOLF
Chaminade 7, St. Anthony's 0: John Reali and Mike Hanley shot an even-par 35s on the front nine at Garden City Country Club to lead Chaminade (14-0) to the CHSAA league title.
Griffin McQuilling and Chris Bleck shot 36s, Nick Capozzi and Luke Koskovolis shot 37s and Jack Williams shot 38 as Chaminade won its 56th straight league match.
