Coming nor'easter impacts high school sports schedule

High school sports has taken a timeout as Long Island braces for another beating by Mother Nature.
In light of the predicted nor'easter, most, if not all, events scheduled for Friday and Saturday have been rescheduled, according to the executive directors of Nassau (Section VIII) and Suffolk (Section XI). The action, including county playoffs and championships, is expected to resume as early as Sunday.
"This change eliminates last-minute decisions, ensures all students the opportunity to participate and minimizes the loss of instructional time for less students," said Nina Van Erk, executive director of Section VIII. Section XI executive director Ed Cinelli also said the pre-emptive moves are the best way to go.
Some of the championship tournaments affected include:
Nassau I wrestling moved to Sunday at Hofstra, concludes Tuesday at Hofstra.
Nassau II wrestling moved to Sunday at Carle Place.
Nassau boys and girls individual bowling championships moved to Tuesday at Garden City Lanes.
Suffolk I wrestling moved to Monday at Hofstra, concludes Tuesday at Hofstra.
Suffolk II wrestling moved to Sunday at Center Moriches.
Suffolk II swimming moved to Monday at Hauppauge.
Suffolk fencing moved to Sunday at Whitman.
CHSAA state wrestling championship moved to Feb. 16 in Buffalo.
CHSAA track and field intersectionals moved to Feb. 17 at St. Anthony's.
Most Suffolk basketball games scheduled for Friday were played Thursday. Nassau and CHSAA basketball games scheduled for Friday are expected to be postponed.
Nassau championships in gymnastics, swimming and fencing had not been postponed as of Thursday, although Van Erk said there was a "tentative Plan B" in place that would move swimming to Monday at Nassau Aquatic Center and gymnastics to Tuesday at Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School. Announcements on those are expected Friday.
