All-Long Island girls cross country team
RUNNER OF THE YEAR
SAMANTHA NADEL
North Shore, Sr.
Nadel established herself as Long Island's best as well as one of the country's top runners. She won the Nassau state qualifier and the state public schools Class B championship. Nadel concluded her cross country season with a second-place finish at the Nike New York Regional and a 10th-place finish at the Nike Cross Nationals in Oregon. Nadel's strong running helped North Shore win its fourth straight overall county championship and its second straight state championship.
BRIGID BRENNAN
Northport, So.
Brennan had an excellent sophomore season with a second-place finish at the Suffolk qualifier. She took 23rd at the state Class A championship and even ran better the following week, taking 14th at the Federation.
ELIZABETH CALDWELL
North Shore, Jr.
Not much separated Caldwell from the rest of her teammates as she took fifth at the Nassau state qualifier, 10th at the state Class B championships and in the top 100 at the Nike Cross Nationals.
JESSICA DONOHUE
North Shore, Jr.
Donohue made helped make North Shore the team to beat with a fourth-place finish at the Nassau state qualifier. She finished third at the state Class B championship and in the top 100 at the Nike Cross Nationals.
STEPHANIE GERLAND
Garden City, 8th.
Gerland's season ended on a high note as she finished 21st at the Federation. A week earlier, the eighth-grader took 30th at the state Class B championships. Gerland finished sixth overall at the Nassau qualifier.
TALIA GUEVARA
Miller Place, So.
Guevara followed up a third-place finish at the Suffolk Division championships with a first-place finish at the Suffolk Class B qualifier, a sixth-place finish at the state Class B championships.
BRIANNA NERUD
North Shore, Sr.
If Samantha Nadel is the best on Long Island, Nerud is No. 2. The senior ran to a second-place finish at the Nassau state qualifier, the state Class B championships and finished 17th at the Nike Cross Nationals.
RACHEL PAUL
Sachem East, Sr.
Paul emerged as Suffolk's top runner, taking first at the Suffolk Division championships and the state qualifier. She followed that up with a ninth-place finish at the state Class A championship, a fifth-place finish at the Federation and took 26th at the Nike Cross Nationals.
