Blau, Veracka lead Hauppauge girls
Hauppauge has won the sophomore girls cross country team championship for the second season in a row.
Why is this significant?
Coaches agree that building a quality varsity cross country program starts with the freshmen and sophomore athletes. "These athletes helped the Hauppauge [girls] win its first varsity cross country League title this year," Hauppauge coach Ed Dunphy said.
Kayla Blau took fourth (20:47), Taylor Veracka was fifth (20:58), Holly Sentowski eighth (21:10), Stephanie Kramer 13th (21:56) and Marissa Mecurio took 20th (23:04) for Hauppauge.
A product of last season's squad is junior Christine Eisenberg, who has had a standout season for the Hauppauge varsity.
The same can be said of the Hauppauge boys team, which also won the League IV title.
