Chaminade's Thomas Awad had the best day of any Long Island runner at the Federation cross country championships at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls Saturday with a third-place finish in 16:02.1.

Awad was joined by teammate Joseph Ferencik, who helped the Flyers to a seventh-place finish with 219 points.

North Babylon's Kris Moran was the next best among Long Island athletes and took 15th in 16:21.3. Manhasset's Stephen Bourguet finished 21st in 16:30.4.

St. Anthony's (185), with a fifth-place finish, was led by Thomas Diliberto. Diliberto (16:41.7) finished 37th. Teammates Patrick Ginty (16:48.8) and Brian Smith (16:50.2) took 41st and 44th.

In the girl's race, Sachem East's Rachel Paul took fifth in 18:37, Tiana Guevara (18:46) of Miller Place was 10th and Brigid Brennan (Northport) finished 14th.

Other top finishers include Garden City's Stephanie Gerland (19:08) with a 21st-place finish, Victoria D'Amato (Northport, 19:08.9), who was 22nd and Miller Place's Talia Guevara (19:09.1) with a 23rd place finish.

Ward Melville had the highest score among Long Island teams, taking seventh with 254 points. Eighth-grader Courtney Williams led the way for the Patriots, finishing 31st in 19:21.2.
