Uniondale goes the distance

Uniondale isn't a school known for distance runners. But that has changed recently thanks to Monique Mitchel and Alanna Richardson. Mitchel took first in 20:12 for Uniondale, and Richardson finished second overall in a league meet against county powerhouses Massapequa and Syosset last week. Mitchel has just one loss on the season.

All in the family

Bay Shore girls cross country coach Steve Borbet and his wife, Kathy, coach of the Smithtown boys cross country team, completed a rare double as each team captured the varsity 2 race (large schools) at the Brown Invitational last week. Patrick Ginty took second overall for Smithtown in 16:10.03, and Lindsay Arcuri (18:56.5) took seventh for Bay Shore.
