Northport's boys cross country team dominated the Class A race at the Suffolk boys cross country state qualifying meet yesterday at Sunken Meadow State Park, securing a trip to Queensbury High School for Saturday's state meet.

The Tigers took the top three places, scoring 21 points. Mike Brannigan won in 15 minutes, 58.16 seconds. Tim McGowan finished second in 16:31.92. Jack McGowan was third in 16:38.54.

Shoreham-Wading River will be joining Northport at states. They scored 41 points in the Class B race. Ryan Udvadia won in 16:26.84. Keith Steinbrecher was seventh in 17:31.69.

Port Jefferson won Class C with 35 points. James Burke won in 17:47.78. Justin Julich was second in 18:17.81.

Stony Brook will represent Class D. The Bears scored 27 points. Jacob Brummeler finished second in 18:52.88.

On the girls side, Northport took Class A with 51 points. Brigid Brennan finished fifth in 20:17.01. Amelia Kuehn was seventh in 20:32.18.

Miller Place won Class B with 34 points. Tiana Guevara won in 19:37.41. Laura Nolan was third in 20:11.32.

Mattituck scored 39 points and won Class C. Melanie Pfennig was second in 21:02.99. Stony Brook won Class D with 26 points. Margot Rashba won in 21:33.74.
