Long Island Runner of the Year: Matthew Payamps, St. Anthony's, Sr.

Payamps spent most of the year at the top of the speed rankings on tullyrunners.com. Payamps won the CHSAA Intersectional Championship in 12 minutes, 49.74 seconds (4K) and the CHSAA League title in 16:55.45 (5K). Payamps ran a 15:49.79 at the Ocean State Invitational in September, the second fastest individual time on Long Island this season.
Suffolk Runner of the Year: Kal Lewis, Shelter Island, Jr.

Lewis won his second consecutive state public school Class D championship, running a 16:23.3 at Sunken Meadow State Park. At the same meet, Lewis was the second fastest Long Islander in the all-class merge.
Nassau Runner of the Year: Jack Rosencrans, North Shore, Sr.

Rosencrans was the best Nassau runner by a large margin and was one of the best in the state. He finished fifth in Class B in 16:20.3 at the state public school championships and was 15th -- and the fastest Long Islander -- in the all-class merge.
Kevin Cawley, Smithtown East, Sr.

Cawley was second in Class A in 16:49.93 at the Suffolk State Qualifier. He was Smithtown's top finisher at the New York race at Nike Cross Regionals, running the Bowdoin Park Course in Wappingers Falls in 16:57.6.
Thomas Cirrito, Miller Place, Jr.

He was the best Class B runner in Suffolk. Cirrito placed seventh in the class in 16:27.5 at the public school state championships. He also ran the fastest 5K time on Long Island this season, a 15:35.57 at the Brown Northeast Invitational, according to milesplit.com.
Daniel Czop, Commack, Sr.

He was the top Long Islander in the New York race at Nike Cross Regionals, running the Bowdoin Park course in 16:32.4 - good for 17th overall.
Nicholas DeFelice, Smithtown West, Sr.

He was a key piece on Long Island's best team. DeFelice ran 18th in Class A in 16:32.4 at the state public school championships.
Sean Ryan, Northport, Sr.

He finished 12th in Class A in 16:24.0 at the public school state championships. That time placed him 19th in the all-class merge.
Long Island Coach of the Year: Peter Schieck, Smithtown

His combined Smithown squad was, far and away, the best team on Long Island all season. They finished third in Class A and third in the all-class merge at the state public school championships. Smithtown also was fifth in the New York race at Nike Cross Regionals.
