Ducker helps get Newfield past Centereach
Jeremy Ducker had 10 points, including seven in the fourth quarter as Newfield, sparked by a big first half, topped Centereach, 51-42, in Suffolk League III boys basketball Saturday.
Newfield led by 16 at the break and 39-25 after three quarters. Ducker had eight assists and six rebounds and James Manginelli 12 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks for Newfield (1-7, 1-3).
Academy of the New Church (Bryn Athyn, Pa.) 51, Long Island Lutheran 47: Ryan Denicola had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Long Island Lutheran (10-4) in a loss at the ninth annual Big Apple Invitational at Baruch College.
Center Moriches 79, Southampton 75: Maleek Harris had 11 points, 10 assists and 10 steals, including a steal and layup with seconds remaining to seal the win for Center Moriches (3-2) on Friday in League VII. Akyse Brown scored 17 of his 26 points in the second half and Naquan Mathis scored 20 points, including the go-ahead free throw with 9.8 seconds left.
Floyd 57, Patchogue-Medford 25: LaShon Washington had 12 points and nine rebounds to lead Floyd (5-0) in League I. Anthony White had 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three blocks.
Glen Cove 75, Valley Stream South 65: Frankie Mickens scored eight of his 15 points in the fourth quarter and Glen Cove (6-0) went 9-for-11 from the foul line in the fourth period in a Nassau Conference A-III game Friday. Kewan Beebe had a game-high 26 points and Yadiyah Letellier had 24 points and 10 rebounds.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Sachem East 61, Commack 43: Senior Meagan Doherty scored a career-high 29 points and Katie Doherty had nine assists to lead Sachem East (7-1, 5-0) in League I.
Farmingdale 40, Syosset 37: Alexis Panariello had 12 points to lead Farmingdale (2-0) in a Nassau Conference AA-I game Friday night. Colleen Reynolds had nine points and nine rebounds and Kaitlin Gaghan six points and 10 rebounds.
Mineola 49, Seaford 44: Samantha Venus hit two consecutive three-pointers to give Mineola (3-2) a 45-40 lead with 1:22 left in Conference A-IV on Friday. Venus finished with 15 points, and Kerri Medlock had 17 points and 14 rebounds.
WRESTLING
Seaford's Kevin Butler won most outstanding wrestler at 145 pounds at the Patrick Burke Duals at Seaford, a tournament named after his older brother, a Seaford wrestler who was killed in a car accident in 2004.
Palascio shines for Long Beach. Long Beach's Dylan Palascio defeated Brian Realbuto (Somers), 8-5, to win the 152-pound title at the Eastern States at Sullivan CC. Realbuto was the defending national champion in the weight class and ranked second nationally. Long Beach took third (out of 99 teams), Palascio was named the tournament's most outsanding wrestler and champion of champions. Teammate Mark Raghunandan defeated Dylan Realbuto (Somers), 6-5, to win at 113 pounds.
Skinner wins at Kellenberg. Kellenberg's Patrick Skinner won an 11-6 decision over Bellmore JFK's Robert Person at 113 pounds and was named most outstanding wrestler in the Ed Solosky Memorial Tournament. Kellenberg took first with 307.5 points, followed by Wantagh (205), Bellmore JFK (202.5) and Sayville 194.5.
Lindenhurst tournament. Kings Park's Andrew Roden won by decision over North Andover's Daniel Coughlin, 11-1, to capture the 106-pound championship at the Lindenhurst Tournament. Kings Park finished first with 298 points, followed by East Islip (240.50) and Lindenhurst with 233.50 points.
Kings Park also had a champion in the 182-pound class as Andrew Ventura won by decision, 12-0, over North Andover's Ryan Neals.
In other Lindenhurst matches, East Islip's Sal Cipolla won the 113-pound title, Jordan Myers of Amityville won the 285-pound championship, and Kings Park's Nick Weber took home the 195-pound title.
Northport 36, Riverhead 35: Clayton Cobe defeated Mark Andrejack by decision, 6-4, in their 113-pound match to give Northport (9-5) a win in the third-place match of the Comsewogue Warrior Duals.
