Long Island field hockey top 10 rankings

A look at the top field hockey teams on Long Island, based on games through Sunday, Sept. 20:
1. GARDEN CITY
The powerhouse team has gotten off to a 3-0 start, including two shutouts over strong teams. Senior Michaela Bruno, Newsday's reigning Nassau Player of the Year, and junior Taylor Gladd have combined for seven points through three games. Kelly Aneser and Emily Clarke have three points (two goals) each through that span.
2. SACHEM EAST
The Flaming Arrows (3-1) are back to their winning ways after a 3-2 loss to Northport on Sept. 11. Sachem East most recently beat Ward Melville, 2-0. Cara Trombetta, Newsday's defending Long Island Player of the Year, is off to a fast start with seven points (three goals).
3. MILLER PLACE
Miller Place (4-0) is nearly flawless, outscoring its opponents 23-1 through its first four games. Crystal Esposito leads the team with eight points.
4. ROCKY POINT
The reigning Suffolk Class B champions have put up big numbers through three games, outscoring opponents 14-1. Forward Nickie Sciulla has 10 points (nine goals).
Smithtown East started its season with five consecutive wins. Amanda Funaro leads the team with 10 points (two goals).
6. CARLE PLACE
Carle Place (4-1) continues to collect wins against talented teams. Elissa Frein leads all Nassau scorers with eight points (seven goals) through five games.
7. NORTHPORT
Northport (4-0) is off to a convincing start with four wins, including one over Sachem East. Noelle Peragine and Natalie Langella have combined for 21 points.
The Patriots (3-1) have three shutouts and are outscoring opponents, 13-2. Shawn Davenport and goalie Emily Hoey lead the way defensively.
9. MANHASSET
Manhasset (1-2) earned its first win Friday with a 3-0 victory over North Shore. Goalie Lauren Suga has 18 saves for the team, which lost to Garden City and Carle Place.
Cold Spring Harbor (0-2-1) has gone winless through a tough schedule early this year. Kylie Tsotsos has 12 saves in goal.
